Halong Bay is the most popular destination among the tourist who visit Vietnam. Hạ Long Bay, in northeast Vietnam, is known for its emerald waters and thousands of towering limestone islands topped by rainforests and also declared as UNESCO world heritage site. The name Hạ Long means “descending dragon”. The bay consists of a dense cluster of some 1,600 limestone monolithic islands each topped with thick jungle vegetation, rising spectacularly from the ocean. Several of the islands are hollow, with enormous caves. A community of around 1,600 people live on Hạ Long Bay in four fishing villages: Cua Van, Ba Hang, Cong Tau and Vong Vieng in Hung Thang ward, Hạ Long city. Another specific feature of Hạ Long Bay is the abundance of lakes inside the limestone islands. For example, Dau Be Island has six enclosed lakes.
SEASONS OF BALI
There are four seasons in Halong Bay. These are: Wet and Hot Summer, Cool Autumn, Cold and Dry Winter and the Warm Spring. Ha Long Bay offers different beauty in different season.
Wet & Hot Summer (June to August): From June to August, it is Wet and Summer season for Halong Bay. Sometimes there is Typhoon alert also. It is also sunny and hot day in Halong Bay. August is the most hot and wettest time of this season. The average temperature remains 28°C-35°C.
Tips: In this you will get the lower price in everything in hotel, resort, cruise and any activities. But, in this season you will get more local tourist in Halong Bay as it is the time of summer vacation in Vietnam. Sometimes the cruise or any outdoor activities might be cancelled due to the typhoon or any other natural calamities. Also be aware about Jelly fish which is found more in this season comparatively to other seasons. Consult with your guide before scuba/snorkeling/swim any place.

Cool Autumn (September to November): From September to November, it is Autumn in Halong Bay. The weather gets stable in Autumn and temperature starts to be cooler than the earlier months. A splash of rain will surprise you at the earlier of September. Temperature remains within the range of 18°C to 25°C. A cool breeze will give you a comfortable staying in Halong Bay this season. After wet season, Halong shows its scenic beauty with landscape views in this season. It is the golden time to visit Halong Bay. Also, this is the festive season as Mid-Autumn festival is in September.
Tips: Carry an umbrella or rain coat with you as you will face a short period of rain anytime of the day. It is for a very short period. Carry a light sweater for the chilling breeze at early morning and late night. Book your hotel/ticket advance to avoid any unwanted circumstances as this is the peak season of the international tourists.
Dry Winter (December to February): From December to February, it is winter in Halong Bay. Halong bay offers different beauty in this season. It is the dry season of Vietnam and not that sunny days. Temperature remains within the range of 7°C to 18°C. Weather remains comfortable for whole through the day. The sky is not blue like summer or autumn but this is another level of beauty. It is also festive season as Christmas in December and Lunar New year in February which is a big event in Vietnam.
Tips: Carry a bit heavy Sweater/Jacket as the temperature might drops upto 7°C. Book your tickets advance.
Warm Spring (March to May): From March to May, it is Spring in Halong Bay. The temperature remains 18°C to 23°C. It is just prior to the Summer and the sky remains blue with a very bright day. It is a comfortable time to do all short of outdoor activities. Keep in mind that towards late April, an increase in visitors is expected due to the Hung Kings Temple Festival and Reunification Day.
Tips: Book your ticket early. Just avoid the crowded Independence Day (April 30) and Labour Day (May 1) rush. During this time you will get the wet days more at late later part of May.
BEST TIME TO VISIT HALONG BAY
From September to November and March to May is the Golden time to visit Halong Bay. But from December to February is also ideal time to visit with limited swimming due to cold. If you are a budget traveler, then June to August will be best time for you as it offers the cheap price comparatively to other season.
